An in-depth look into the histories of Nepenthe

Nanshi/Koishii's back story

since Nanashi and Koishii are twins, their detailed back story matches up until a certain point:

Nanashi and Koishii are part of a tribe that is the last of their species. They are a combination of human and wolf DNA resulting in a humanoid species with ears and tails as well as heightened senses that animals have. They are isolated in the Rocky Mountain area, nearly cut off from civilization. Nanashi and Koishii are the first documented set of twins in the clan and their father is the leader of said clan, as his father was before him. Nanashi was the first one born and was healthy while Koishii was second and sickly as well as albino, which stands out because the clan was a black wolf clan. Normally since Koishii was born weak and sick, he would be left to die, but instead the twin's mother begged for his life pledging that she would take care of him. Giving in to his wife's wish, the boy's father allowed him to live.
Nanashi was taken by his dad to be brought up to be the next leader. He was giving the name Nanashi because it means 'One Without a Name" his dad's theory on bringing Nanashi up was based on tough love. Nanashi grew feeling no love from his father who he spent most of his time with, instead of love and care he was brought up on ridicules and criticism. Koishii on the other hand was spoiled rotten by his mother who named him Koishii meaning 'Beloved One.' He was her precious baby boy, but she thought he was too sick to go out and play with the other children or do anything really. Nanashi came to be jealous of his twin who was given all the love and Koishii was jealous of Nanashi's strength, independence and responsibilities he was given.
As the boys grew up separately Koishii became an expert at manipulating everyone around him and his jealously led him to chase off any of Nanashi's friends. At the age of 15 Nanashi had enough, in his eyes his brother was the cause of all his suffering, the reason why all his friends left him, the reason why his most recent love interest shunned him, why their parents did not love him, everything. And so on that fateful day Nanashi snapped and nearly choked his brother to death with his own hands. Nanashi's mother walked in at the wrong time and witnesses this and made a fuss, as killing, or even intending to kill someone in their small close-knit clan was the worst transgression and so Nanashi was disowned and banished from the clan. However, Nanashi's grandfather, who was leader before his father, was in control of the family's fortune (since they were practically cut off from civilization they tended not to spend money and horde it) took pity on his favored grandson signing over a large portion of the fortune to the exiled Nanashi.
With this money and investments Nanashi gained, he traveled the world trying to find his place in it, learning new languages where ever he went, he acquired a rare car, and along the way learning to play guitar. At one point he was a guitarist was a band that was rising in popularity, but they disbanded and Nanashi got fed up, pledging not to get involved with anyone else unless the had potential as the dedication to the band required him to stop his wanderings and stay in one place for longer then he had liked. In his travels Nanashi fell in love with moving from place to place and hated being pinned down anywhere until he came to New Haven. He at first refused the offer to join a band as he was not going to stay around for very long, but then he met the love of his life and get up his roaming lifestyle for him. Nanashi eventually joined the band Nepenthe as he saw potential in them to make it big.

In the separation from his twin, Koishii's grasp on the relationship he and Nanashi shared was warped. Hatred turned to love as he had delusion that his twin really truly loved him, which is what he really wanted, but that love turned into something taboo in his mind. With Nanashi gone, Koishii was left in charge, but Koishii was not brought up to be a leader, he was pampered and selfish and led the clan to ruin. Determined to go out and find his twin, Koishii began spending loads of the money left in the account to seeing different doctors and physical trainers, trying to become stronger and healthier like his older brother. To some extent the treatments worked, but he would never be as healthy and strong as Nanashi, and he began to wear aqua contacts so that he would not look so odd. As soon as he legally became an 'adult' at the age of 18, he set out in search of his twin, leaving the suffering clan behind. In the time that Nanashi was gone his grandfather, mother, father, and one of his sisters died from a plague, leaving Koishii and two sisters his only blood family left.

Cho

Christian Myers, who would later become know as Cho, was the first child his parents had. Mrs. Myers was a popular Lawyer and Dr. Myers was a plastic surgeon. The two originally met when Mrs. Myers underwent a nose surgery. As a child, Christian was very energetic and curious, but he was often left alone as neither parent wanted to give up there successful career so early in life to take care of him. Taking after his mother, Christian was cursed with being short and slender, his delicate bone structure making him very feminine looking. At school he was normally grouped in with the girls, but he liked it better that way as he never fit in with the boys, not that he ever tried. Christian preferred dolls over cars and liked to play dress up and get into his mother's makeup. At first his parents thought nothing of this and Christian continued his ways, pleasantly not caring of the gender differences and the proper role of a male he was supposed to play.

As Christian grew older and the gender differences became more apparent at school, Christian decided that he would rather be female. At this time he gave himself the name Cho (Japanese female name for butterfly) and used his looks to his advantage, seducing boys into thinking he was female as well as older men with lolita/shouta complexes lavishing in the pretty trinkets he was gifted in his conquests. As Cho began to wear more and more skimpy female clothing out in public as well as in the house and grow his glossy black hair long, his parents finally caught on to what their son was doing and were furious. But the more his parents yelled at him, the worse Cho rebelled, dying his hair blue and staying out all night with guys he had just met.

Just before he turned 13 Cho and his father got into a huge fight over Cho's lifestyle and it ended violently. Distraught over the argument Cho left home and began living off the people he draws in using them from shelter, food, money to live, etc. until he gets bored or they get tired of him, and then he would move on to the next. After two years of living like this Cho's mother's career came to an end and she decided not to get another job as she was pregnant with her second child. Both parents, in light of the new baby on the way, began to feel guilty about their failure with their first child. Dr. Myers searched and eventually found his son and dragged out of the man's house he was staying with and brought him home. It was impossible though for the family to get along like a normal one. Embarrassed and fed up with his tramp of a son, Cho's father made the decision to buy a town house not far from them for Cho to live in and pay for his food and living costs. This way they would not feel so guilty about abandoning their son and it would hopefully put a stop to his sleeping around. Their second child was also a boy and this time they were determined to bring him up right, but they were afraid that if he knew about his older brother her might become weird as well, so they kept their other son a secret, restricting Cho's presence to a once a month visit, just to assure that he is still alive.

Cho started high school not long after being giving his own place and he was miserable but unable to legally drop out until he was 16. One day while he was skipping classes as usual, Cho took notice of an upper class men. For once something about this person drew him in and he began to follow him around, but was never noticed. When the upper class men decided to join a band with two sophomores Cho knew, having learned to play drums from having lived with a drummer from some time, he jumped at the chance and offered to be the drummer for the band. As soon as he turned 16, Cho dropped out of high school to focus on the band as it was his dream to become famous and finally earn the pride of his parents. Because of the way he used to live, Cho has issues being alone and does not connect sex with love.

Rin Itaya

Rin was the first born of a heavily religous christian couple. His mother is mostly korean and an elementary teacher at a school local to Rin's hometown. His father is a Japanese stockbroker who is very strict about church and studies. Rin grew up normally for a while, with a younger sister born when he was three and another at the age of five, and enjoyed the shelter of a loving family. At six his father pushed him to join in the junior church chior and the little boy discovered his love for music. This continued until Rin was about twelve, when he started realizing that things he read in the bible were contradicting his own point of view, especially since he was finding himself attracted to other boys rather than having any interest in any girls other than his mother and sisters. But he kept this quiet, only sharing his deepest secrets with his best friend, Cy, who had been in his classes since Rin was in third grade. At the age of 16 Rin went with his father on a short trip to Japan to see his grandparents. While there, he saw on TV extravagant musicians who wore incredible costumes, tons of makeup, and, to Rin's biggest shock, were kissing and touching eachother onstage completely unashamed. When Rin came back to the states he told Cy all about what he had seen, and started going on about how he wanted to be just like those musicians on TV. Cy, who had been taking guitar lessons for a few years prior, suggested starting a band. One thing led to another, as such things often do, and when Rin began describing details of the fanservice he had borne witness to, he innocently began demonstrating on Cy, which slowly led to some not so innocent demonstrating. His mother, in the process of calling the two down for dinner, caught the boys red handed. Cy was immediately kicked out of the house and Rin was left to fend for himself. In the process, he took all the blame, not wanting Cy to be in any trouble. He went on to explain to his parents, his sisters listening in the next room, how he was gay, didn't want to go to church anymore, and wanted to start taking real singing lessons. All of this simply led to a beating and quick arrangements to find a strict boarding school that would hopefully straighten the boy out.

In the few months until the next semester when Rin would be able to transfer to the boarding school, he set his plans for his band in motion. One day, while walking the halls with Cy, they passed the music room and heard someone playing bass. Rin, eager to find more members, charged in and found a group of upperclassmen practicing together. It was there he met Kaylin, a senior at the time. Amused that two mere sophmores were asking him to start a band together, Kaylin simply dismissed the pair. For a month Rin chased after the senior, claiming that he would have no other, much to Cy's dismay. Finally, Kaylin gave in and said that if Cy and Rin impressed him, that he would join the band. Rin instantly took to the challenge, dragging both Kaylin and Cy to the music room and singing for the older boy right then and there. Kaylin, needless to say, was quite surprised at the pair's skill and, true to his word, agreed to join. In the remaining time, Cy and Rin's friend from class, Cho, joined the band as their drummer, and Nepenthe was born.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and Rin was forced to say his goodbyes to Nepenthe and the rest of his original highschool friends and moved to St. Gale's boarding school. Upon arrival, however, he learned that the school wasn't as strict as advertised, and that it was male only, something his father neglected to take into consideration. He was able to come and go as he pleased, which made practicing with Nepenthe even easier. And, as a sort of revenge unto his father, fell into the habit of committing one night stands. As a final act of defiance, Rin dyed his hair his favorite color, a bright red, wanting to get rid of the plain dark brown color his father had passed onto him.

In the three years he's spent at St. Gale's, he's worked hard at Nepenthe and trying to balance his schoolwork with his dream. He's slowed down a bit on the sleeping around, but on average will have a fling once every other week, loving to seduce older men at clubs and have them buy him drinks.

Rin still loves his mother and sisters dearly, the three having slowly come to accept Rin's difference from the rest of the family. But the hatred between Rin and his father continues to grow, the only interraction between the two of them being a "good job, keep it up" whenever Rin's report cards get sent home and yearly visits home on Christmas that are filled with silence.

Cycnus (Cy)

From the beginning Cy's family only consisted of him and his mother, living in a small apartment complex. Cy's father left before he had even been born, and his mother had been disowned by her family for having a child before being married. Most of Cy's childhood consisted of long nights being cared for by an elderly neighbor while his mother was off working, often falling asleep while waiting for her return and waking up in his mother's arms, being carried back to his own apartment. Until he had to start going to school, most of Cy's clothing was donated from the very woman who babysat him, who had a granddaughter just a bit older than the boy. Of course, this meant that most of his clothes were pink and frilly, and paired with his clear blue eyes and curly blonde hair, the little boy often got mistaken for a girl on outings. Once school started, however, Cy's mother was forced to buy him "normal" clothes, but never scolded the boy when he came home and wanted to pull on one of his dresses.

In third grade, the usual shy Cy was approached by Rin, who was loud and forward, and was pretty much ordered to play with him. Oddly enough, a sort of friendship began to form between the two boys and within a year they were constantly going over one another's houses after school. The first time Rin visited Cy's apartment Rin laughed at the older boy, asking him why he was wearing girly clothes. This embarrassed Cy greatly and caused him to throw away all his old clothes in a fit of tears. That night, when his mother got home and saw the dresses in the trash, Cy was forced to explain what had happened. His mother said nothing once the story was done, and let him go to sleep.

As Cy grew older he still found himself yearning for girl's clothes, but kept this to himself. He asked his neighbor if she could teach him to sew and the old woman, knowing how Cy used to dress as a child, agreed to keep it a secret and taught him all that she knew. Soon, Cy had a small collection of childlike dresses made in his size in the back of his closet. He never wore them, but it made him happy to know that they were there. In time, his mother discovered them and inquired as to the reason. Cy quietly and calmly explained that he had always liked dressing that way, and wanted to continue. Cy's mother simply smiled and accepted all of this, saying that she had never made Cy stop wearing the clothes, that he stopped on his own, and Cy happily began to wear his girl clothes after school again as long as Rin or any other of his few friends weren't around.

At 13, Cy discovered an old accoustic guitar in the back of his mother's closet while helping her clean one day. His mother explained that it was the only thing Cy's father had left them and that she simply couldn't bare to let it go, no matter how much pain that man had put her through. Cy pondered over the guitar for weeks, until finally he used all the money had had been saving up for a new dress project to go get it fixed and cleaned up. He asked his mother if he could have the guitar and start lessons, and, with a little hesitation, she agreed, deciding that the boy needed a peice of the father he had never known.

It was that same year that Rin came out to Cy, the older boy, having never really cared about gender or what sex he liked anyway, simply asked, "So, if I say its okay for you to like boys, is it okay for me to wear girly dresses?" Rin was puzzled for a moment, but soon remembered back to that one day he had bothered Cy about his preference in clothing, and laughingly agreed to the arrangement and the two continued to grow closer.

The day Rin told Cy about the band he saw on telivision, however, turned Cy's world a bit topsy turvy. He had simply asked Rin what he had meant when he said the band was all over eachother when Rin kissed him. Cy, quite surprised, couldn't move for a moment as Rin continued to deepen the kiss, the shyer boy slowly beginning to respond, finding he wanted more just as Rin's mother discovered the pair. It was then that Cy's true love for Rin showed itself, but he found he could never speak up about his true feelings.

After Rin got sent to St. Gale's, Cy continued with highschool with Cho and Kaylin, but soon Cho dropped out and even sooner, Kaylin graduated. Left alone except for band practices when he could see his friends, Cy became more and more introverted, focusing heavily on his schoolwork and getting a part time job at the fabric store to earn some extra cash and continue with his sewing. Once graduated from highschool, Cy got an apartment not far from St. Gale's so he could be close to Rin, and continued his job at the fabric store, getting extra money on the side by working as a freelance tailor should jobs come his way. He's still quite close to his mother, often calling her every day just to talk, but doesn't have any friends outside of the band, preferring to keep to himself despite how lonely he can get.

Kaylin

Kaylin doesn't have much history before higschool. He grew up in a rather normal and middle-class family with a single brother three years his elder. When he was 15 a group of friends and he decided to start a band and Kaylin started to learn bass. He ran a rather normal teenage life until his senior year of higschool, when Rin butted his way into the bassist's life. Kaylin's current band was failing anyway, and though he had initially decided to stay away from music for a while, somehow his curiosity was piqued enough to join Nepenthe. Soon after his joining, Cho came into the picture. At 18, Kaylin had slept with plenty of girls and had a half dozen or so girlfriends in his lifetime, but Cho intrigued him and interested him in a way that none of the girls had ever done. He ignored the odd feeling, however, and continued in his normal fashion.

After he graduated higschool, Kaylin went to community college using his own money as he knew of the pains his parents were going through simply to pay for his older brother's schooling. In the middle of his second year, however, Kaylin grew bored with the classes and began to lose direction in his life. Wanting to focus, he dropped out and left home, moving in with a few friends from school. Now, he currently lives with those roommates and works the late shift at a nearby factory to pay for his rent, gas money, and using any extra to go toward the band, which is now his main focus in life. He unnofficially became the bands' bookkeeper, and slowly its leader because of his personal drive to make Nepenthe the biggest it can be. Somehow, the band became his dream, and he refuses to let go.

Somehow, within all of this, after girlfriend after girlfriend and never being satisfied, Kaylin found himself growing closer to Cho, caring after the youngest member as if he was a little brother. Without realizing it, a relationship formed between the two, and Kaylin stopped caring about girls. Though still a bit ashamed of it, Kaylin realizes that he is at least bi and isn't about to deny it.

Enlai Niu

Born to a human father and fairy mother, Enlai is half fae and doesn't talk about his past much, even with Nanashi. He prefers to keep it a secret, especially considering that throughout most of the year he denies his origins himself.

Shortly after Enlai was born his father found him on his doorstep, or rather, his maid did and delivered him to his father with a simple message from Enlai's mother of "I'll be back on his 13th birthday" His father, a man of some considerable wealth, remembered a short fling with a woman who claimed, and then proved, herself to be a fairy. The father, half drunk at the time, ignored the backstory of how there was a shortage of men in the species and so a select few women were sent out to mate with humans every year. Obviously this proved to be a mistake, as now Enlai was to be under his care, at least for the next thirteen years. The child was completely human in appearance if you didn't include his slightly pointed ears, the pattern of wings on his back that resembled a faded tattoo, and his stunningly bright turquoise eyes. Enlai was put under the care of the maid that found him, and, as soon as he was old enough, was sent off to a boarding school.

From then on, St. Gale's has been Enlai's home, continuing through the years as a top student, spending his summers and holidays in the dorm, only seeing his father when it was required for him by the school to visit. In the beginning Enlai wrote letters back and forth to the maid who had become his nanny, but even those stopped after a couple of years and the boy was cut off from home.

He was often teased about his eyecolor and ears, which made him grow out his hair to an unmanagable shag to hide those traits, learning how to see through his bangs so he could avoid the teasing. He also learned not to show his back to the other students, who would go from praise to scorn as soon as they realized that the "tattoo" was in the shape of wings. However, he couldn't change the fact that he was extremely small in stature for a boy, and the teasing continued.

The week of his thirteenth birthday, he got an unexpected summons to return home, excited and hoping that maybe he was to finally be accepted by his father. Once he was there, his back itching and burning horribly for some reason he couldn't fathom, he was forced an audience with a fair looking woman who was introduced as his mother. The woman had eyes like Enlai's, platinum blonde hair, and ears that were so far pointed out that even her hair couldn't hide them. The woman explained Enlai's origin calmly, but the boy wouldn't have it and ran off to his room. Locked inside, he studied his features through a wall of tears, and upon removing his shirt, saw that the pattern on his back had darkened considerably and was starting to resemble raised veins across his skin. Disgusted with the image, he broke the mirror he was looking in, but soon after, his wings broke free, practically traumatizing the boy despite the explanation from his mother.

After a night of crying himself to sleep and waking up in a daze, Enlai returned downstairs to where his mother was waiting and asked plainly if there was any way to remove the wings and return to his life. His mother then explained that he was to return with her to become a potential mate for the women of his species. Enlai refused and said he was going back to school, rathering to live with the man who had at least somewhat tolerated his existance rather than pawning him off until he was needed again. The very idea of simply being used for his reproduction capabilities also horribly upset the boy, merely more than a child. Enlai returned to his room and packed up what little things he had brought, arranging for a cab to take him to the train station the next morning and spending the rest of the day locked in his room. He found the next morning that his wings had receded back into his body, the markings slowly fading to their previous state.

He continued his life of schooling, rarely talking to other classmates unless required for a project. He figured out how to pull out and hide his wings willfully, the only time they came out against his will being his birthday, the markings growing darker progressively during the week before, and fading slowly during the following week.

He accidentally discovered lolita fashion while surfing on the internet for a school assignment one night when he was 15. Having only experienced more formal clothing and his school uniform, he became infatuated with it and, not wanting to ask his father for money for such expensive clothes, bought a sewing machine instead and painstakingly taught himself to sew. Within a couple years his skills improved enough where he was proud enough to wear his creations, covering his dull brown hair, which he disliked just as much as his fairy attributes, with different wigs when he dressed up. He learned how to expertly sneak in and out of the dorm and campus dressed as such, liking to simply go for walks or have a bite to eat at the cafe while he people watched, always shying away from any conversation that came his way.

Then, on Halloween during his 18th year, he met Nanashi and everything was changed around. Enlai slowly came out of his shell, gaining more confidence in himself as he fell more and more in love with the wolf boy. The relationship has given him the courage to make friends in and out of school and actually like himself. Despite Nanashi's own odd backgrounds, though, Enlai still tends to keep quiet about his origins and family, and still locks himself up on his birthday so that no one can see his wings. He's vaguely aware that he probably has half brothers and sisters spread across the country and wonders if they let themselves be taken back with his mother and what its like on the fairy side of things, but should anyone appear to take him away again he'd definitely refuse again, especially now since he has Nanashi at his side.

okay, so because LiveJournal was being a douche earlier and the fact that I was rushed, this soo got put in the wrong place/journal
so now I put it in its proper place here:

Yay for Fall, the leaves are changing colours, but not everyone is all so happy about it ^^;;
Anyways I made a kimono for Cho, can't say that I'm all to happy with it, so Ill eventually make hime a better one

The days grow cold and the nights even colder,
yet I dream of the refreshing breeze and smell of colourful spring time

The leaves fall and die as colour withers from the earth and all the while I hope to catch
just one last glance of pink flowers still in bloom

When will it be spring again?
When will the sun shine warmly again and thaw the coldness that envelops me?

I want to see the Sakura trees in full bloom

Finally he has underwear! (even if it is see through) creepy thing is, is that my room mate has commented that she has a pair of underwear almost exactly like this xD

Rant-ish:
words= mine
they random, i made them up on the spot, they don't mean all too much, at least anything that isn't obvious, but I have had problems in the past where people misunderstand my words and take offense (thats why I stopped writing). So please dun think too much on them.
And as for the strangeness of Cho being...well calm? normal? not hyper? he isn't always a hyperactive bundle of cheer/cuteness. When he thinks no one is around he can be quite meloncoly. You can never know whats going on inside that head of his -__- (>_> unlike Nanashi who is easier to read).
Oh and while I was taking the photoshoot a scary maintenece guy appeared right outside my window and stared at me, so i had to hide till he went away ^^;;
